DVS kits for HGV vehicles
Brigade DVS kits for HGV vehicles to meet The Direct Vision Standard
What is the Direct Vision standard (Dvs)?
The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is recent legislation that requires all goods vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes to possess a HGV safety permit in order to be allowed to drive in the Greater London area.
The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is enforced by Transport for London (TfL), which for breaches of the standard issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) with fines of £550 per day (increasing to £825 if not paid within 28 days) for the vehicle and £130 fines for the driver.
DVS Permits for london
The DVS permits are based on a vehicle’s DVS star-rating, and measures how much the driver of a HGV can directly see via their cab windows, and this indicates the risk level to more vulnerable road users, for example people walking or cycling near to a HGV vehicle.
The star rating (which ranges from 0-5) is based on how the vehicle left the production line, and does not take into account any aftermarket safety systems that have since been fitted. HGVs that do not meet the minimum DVS star rating now have to be fitted with a set of vehicle safety equipment to improve and aid the driver’s indirect vision in order to apply for the DVS permit for London.
